One Silver, Two Bronze Medals: the Achievements of Russians at the Paralympics in Tokyo are Growing
OREANDA-NEWS. The XVI Paralympic Games continue in Tokyo, and Russian athletes continue to actively win competition medals in various sports. This time the Russians took silver in swimming and bronze in judo.
The silver medalist of the Paralympics was Daria Pikalova, who finished second in the 100-meter backstroke swim. Its time was 1 minute 8.76 seconds. Gold - from the British Hannah Russell (1.08.44), bronze - from Maria Gomez from Brazil (1.09.18). Athletes competed in the S12 category - the participants in these competitions have intellectual disabilities.
The bronze medal was taken by the Russian woman Alesya Stepanyuk. In the fight for the third place in the weight category up to 52 kg in the B3 class, she defeated the Japanese Yui Fujiwaru.
Swimmer Vyacheslav Emelyantsev became another bronze medalist of the Games. He sailed third in the 200m freestyle in the S14 class. His time is 1 minute 55.58 seconds, which became a new world record. The victory went to the British Rhys Dunn (1.52.40), the second place was taken by the Brazilian Gabriel Bandeira (1.52.74).
Thus, now the assets of the Russian Paralympians are seven gold, six silver and nine bronze medals. With 22 awards, the Russians regained their third place in the overall medal standings. China (13-6-12) and Great Britain (9-9-8) are ahead.
