In November 2024, Mediascope conducted a study commissioned by the Russian Federation. According to the results, football remains the leader in terms of media consumption and audience interest among sports fans. In addition, it is noted that every tenth Russian plays football at least once a week.
"72 percent of Russians aged 12-64 answered that they are either football fans, or try to watch football broadcasts, or are interested in football to some extent," the report says.
In December, VTsIOM published the results of a survey of Russians about national sports. When asked which sport the respondents would call national, 27 percent of the respondents named hockey.
