OREANDA-NEWS. The reason for the postponement of the awards ceremony following the results of the team competition of skaters at the Olympics in Beijing was the problems with doping testing for one of the skaters of the Russian national team, according to Insidethegames.
As noted, the issue is of a legal nature and is related to the test made before the start of the Beijing Olympics. Both the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and the international anti-doping community are involved in the problem.
“The situation arose yesterday on a short notice,” the International Skating Union said in a statement. “She requires consultation with the International Olympic Committee.”
IOC Communications Director Mark Adams commented on the situation, noting that he could not yet speak on this matter, but the problem really exists.
“Because it could have legal implications, I can't comment on it at this stage. But the problem exists. I hope that a little later I will be able to say more, ”Adams emphasized.
The press attaché of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, Olga Yermolina, in a conversation with SE, commented on the information about the questionable doping test of the Russian figure skater.
Recall that on Monday, February 7, Russian figure skaters won the team tournament of the Olympic Games in Beijing. Mark Kondratyuk, Kamila Valieva (both single skating), Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov (pair skating), Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov (dancing) played for the Russian national team.
The awards ceremony was supposed to take place the next day, Tuesday. A new date for the event has not yet been set.
