The President of the European and All-Russian Sambo Federations Sergei Eliseev told, that the European Sambo Championship, which was supposed to be held in Yekaterinburg, was canceled due to the worsening epidemiological situation in the world and in Russia. The sambo tournament was supposed to take place at the end of November.

Sergei Eliseev explained, that the European Championship was canceled due to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation in the world, in Russia and in particular in Yekaterinburg. This is a joint decision of the European Sambo Federation and the organizing committee of the championship in Yekaterinburg. Today, more than half of Russian athletes cannot leave because of this situation, so the organisators do not consider it possible to hold the championship in a truncated form.

It is important that Yekaterinburg still has chances to host the European SAMBO Championships in 2021; the tournament may also be held in Russia in 2022.

The decision about the location of the next European Championship will be made by the Congress of the European Sambo Federation later. The fact is that the European Championship in 2021 is planned in Italy, but it is still not completely clear whether the Italian side will give confirmation to hold the competition. If a refusal is received, the Russian side will try to hold this tournament in Yekaterinburg. The possibility of holding the European Championship in Yekaterinburg in 2022 is also being considered.
