OREANDA-NEWS. China protested Canada over its decision to join the diplomatic boycott of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. This is stated on December 9 in a statement by the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa.
"Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told a lie when he said that the Chinese authorities are violating human rights, and on the basis of this baseless accusation announced that Canada will not send any diplomats to the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing," the diplomatic mission said in a statement.
In addition, China "strongly condemned and strongly protests" against the decision, the article says.
The Chinese authorities are confident that Canada and other Western states support the mentality of the Cold War and are engaged in regular intervention in the internal affairs of other countries, under the guise of allegedly protecting human rights. Thus, according to the embassy, the development process of other countries is slowing down and even disrupted.
China pointed out that "the Canadian side must immediately stop politicizing sports."
“Based on ideological biases and lies and rumors, Canada and several Western countries have blatantly engaged in political maneuvering in an attempt to prevent the smooth running of the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Their clumsy work is unlikely to find support and is doomed to failure, ”the embassy concluded.
In addition, China recalled that Canada was involved in crimes against indigenous peoples and racial discrimination, and therefore expressed the view that the country was not a good example of a “human rights evangelist”.
On December 8, Canada, after the United States, joined a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics. At the same time, the athletes of the Canadian national team still have the opportunity to take part at the Olympics and can count on the full support of the Canadian government.
