CAS Will Issue a Decision on RUSADA’s Appeal at the End of 2020
OREANDA-NEWS. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has completed hearings on the case of the suspension of Russia from international competitions due to a doping scandal. However, the decision will be presented only at the end of the current year.
From November 2 to 5, a series of four meetings took place in Lausanne, Switzerland, on the issue of Russia’s disqualification at the international level because of a large-scale doping scandal. The CAS was considering the appeal of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) against the conviction of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The Russian side challenged the verdict of the international organization issued in December 2019, when, in connection with the discovered traces of manipulations with the database of the Moscow laboratory, WADA recognized RUSADA as not complying with the organization’s code and recommended that Russia be suspended from all major world competitions for 4 years. This means that athletes who fail to obtain the so called neutral participant status will not be admitted to all world championships, Olympic and Paralympic Games and other tournaments held under the aegis of WADA.
