OREANDA-NEWS Former striker of the Russian national football team Andrey Arshavin said about the vague prospects of the national team. He cites his words Metaratings.ru.

The ex-footballer considered that the opportunity for the national team to perform depends not on the players and the Russian Football Union (RFU), but on the current situation in the world. "If you play every two months with Brunei, it will be a farce and it will not be as interesting and funny as it is now," he added.

Due to sanctions from the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations, the Russian national team missed several major international tournaments. Among them are the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2024 European Championship in Germany.

The Russian national team can only play friendly matches. In the last of them, the team beat Brunei with a record score of 11:0 and defeated Syria.
