All Doping Tests of Russian Olympians in Tokyo were Negative
OREANDA-NEWS. All doping tests of Russian athletes at the Tokyo Olympics were negative, the athletes were checked daily. RIA Novosti was informed about this by the team's chief doctor, director of the Center for Sports Medicine of the FMBA, Andrei Zholinsky.
He noted that the participants of the Games also had to constantly inform about their whereabouts.
Since December 2020, by the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Russia has been subject to two-year sanctions due to a dispute between the world (WADA) and Russian (RUSADA) anti-doping agencies. Athletes are prohibited from performing under the country name, flag and anthem at the World Championships and Olympic Games. However, in Tokyo they were allowed to use the tricolor colors on their uniforms.
The Russian national team won 71 awards at the Summer Games and took fifth place in the medal standings.
The team was allowed to play in part. Athletes were suspended in full force, as the IAAF disqualified the All-Russian Athletics Federation due to a doping scandal. Only long jumper Daria Klishina received individual permission to perform in Rio de Janeiro.
According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Russian athletes who performed at the Olympic Games in Tokyo defended the honor of the country and put the politicians to shame, despite the strongest external pressure.
