World Bank will Allocate Almost $5 Billion for the Restoration of Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the World Bank will allocate $4.8 billion to Ukraine for the restoration of the country. As he said on his page on the social network Instagram (the activity of the social network is prohibited in Russia), he made a corresponding request to the World Bank the day before during the ministerial round table.
«I am grateful that they hear and support us. With such help, we will be able to quickly restore the state», he wrote.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine said that the country needs $7 billion a month to compensate for economic losses. The head of the Ukrainian state estimated Ukraine's losses as a result of Russia's special operation at $550 billion. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal, in turn, clarified that the country's GDP may decrease by 30-50% this year. According to his calculations, the direct and indirect losses from Russia's special operation exceeded $560 billion. And the restoration and transformation will cost Ukraine $60 billion.
Recall, that US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that the American side does not yet know whether it is possible to send the frozen assets of the Bank of Russia to help Ukraine, which the Ukrainian side actively insists on. According to her, the consequences of this step should be «carefully weighed» by the US authorities.
