OREANDA-NEWS The amount of loans that new clients in Russia request from microfinance organizations (MFOs) in 2023 decreased by a quarter: the average amount of the request for the first quarter was 11.8 thousand rubles against 16 thousand rubles a year earlier, Andrey Petkov, CEO of IFC Honest Word, told RIA Novosti.
"The downward trend in the amount of loans has been dragging on since 2022. In the first quarter of 2023, the PDL loans segment (Pay Day Loans, payday loans - ed.) showed a difference of -26% compared to last year. ... The average amount of their request for the first trimester of 2023 is 11.8 thousand rubles. The average request amount for the first trimester of 2022 is 16 thousand rubles," Petkov said. According to him, new clients in January of this year asked MFOs for an average of 12.2 thousand rubles, in February - 11.7 thousand rubles, and in March already 11.5 thousand rubles, which was "the minimum for the requested loan amount for 2022-2023." In the first quarter of last year, the average amount of requests was 16.3 thousand rubles in January and February and 14.3 thousand rubles in March. At the same time, in January-March 2023, new customers on average approved 3.5 thousand rubles less than the request - about 8.3 thousand rubles: 8.1 thousand in January, 8.4 thousand in February and 8.3 thousand rubles in March. "Newcomers" overestimate their financial capabilities and try to borrow more than they can repay in time. IFC "Honest Word" monitors the debt load of clients, ... therefore, it gives out exactly the amount that a person is able to return," Petkov explained.
Repeat customers also had lower appetites in the first quarter of this year: in January they requested an average of about 16.2 thousand, in February - 15.7 thousand, and in March - already 15.6 thousand rubles. However, if we compare this year and last, the amount of the request in the first quarter increased by 7% - to 15.9 thousand rubles from 14.9 thousand rubles.
At the same time, repeat customers have less than new ones, the difference between the requested and approved loan size. In the first quarter of this year, they approved 3.1 thousand less than the request - 12.8 thousand rubles. The expert explains this by the fact that clients who have applied for a loan "assess their solvency more accurately."
