OREANDA-NEWS  In March 2024, there was a completely record number of payments in yuan via SWIFT. According to the international system, the share of the national currency of the People's Republic of China in settlements reached 4.69 percent last month.

Despite the growth of the yuan's share, it still remains in fourth place in the structure of global international settlements. The dollar retains the lead with a score of 47.37 percent, while the US currency accounts for 84.13 percent in trade calculations. The second place is occupied by the euro with a share of 21.93 and 5.89 percent, respectively. The British pound is on the third line, and 6.57 percent of global international settlements take place in this currency.

At the same time, the yuan is ahead of the pound in terms of the number of trade payments, accounting for 5.28 percent of such payments.

Earlier, the head of VTB, Andrey Kostin, called for the complete abandonment of payments through the SWIFT international system. According to him, digital payments are an important part of gaining sovereignty, including in international payments. At the same time, the "opponents" of the Russian Federation are also moving in this direction, the banker added.
