OREANDA-NEWS The share of the ruble in payments for exports at the end of last year exceeded 30%, equaling the share of the dollar and noticeably exceeding the share of the euro, according to analytical materials of the Bank of Russia.

"After the transfer of payment for natural gas supplies to unfriendly countries into rubles in May 2022, the share of the national currency in export supplies increased significantly (exceeding 30% at the end of the year), equaling the share of the US dollar and noticeably exceeding the share of the euro," the regulator said.

"Nevertheless, even by the end of 2022, the total weight of the US dollar and euro in settlements for both export and import supplies was slightly less than 50%, which corresponds to the generally established country structure of foreign trade of the Russian Federation, but may also indicate the preservation of settlement risks for Russian companies and their counterparties and risks of blocking assets from unfriendly countries," the Central Bank added.
