OREANDA-NEWS  The richest people on the planet lost a total of about $108 billion due to the sale of shares in the technology sector, which was caused by the success of Chinese DeepSeek, a competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI) rating data and Bloomberg agency materials.

On Monday, there was a global sell-off in the markets related to the success of the Chinese chatbot DeepSeek, which topped the ratings of mobile applications in several countries after the release of a new version of the assistant. Against the background of this situation, the markets have raised the question of the expediency of an investment strategy in artificial intelligence (AI), involving significant investments.

"Five hundred richest people in the world... They lost a total of $108 billion on Monday, as a sell-off led by the tech sector and linked to Chinese artificial intelligence developer DeepSeek led to a drop in major indexes," the Bloomberg article says.

The losses of representatives of the tech sector in the ranking of billionaires totaled $ 94 billion, or almost 85% of the total daily losses, the agency notes.

So, the head of the American Nvidia graphics card company, Jensen Huang, lost 20% of his fortune in a day, or about $ 20.1 billion, and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison lost 22.6 billion, which was only 12% of his wealth, the material notes. The founder and CEO of Dell Technologies, Michael Dell, became poorer by $ 13 billion, and the co-founder of the Binance crypto exchange, Changpeng Zhao, by $12.1 billion, according to the rating.
