OREANDA-NEWS The national currencies of Georgia, Armenia and Tajikistan have become one of the leaders in growth due to the influx of Russians to these countries after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, Bloomberg reports.
Thus, since the beginning of the year, the Armenian dram, according to the agency, has risen by more than 22% against the US dollar, becoming the leader of growth among world currencies. Georgian lari and Tajik somoni strengthened against the dollar by more than 16 and 10%, respectively.
According to the National Bank of Georgia, the volume of money transfers coming to the country from Russia has increased fivefold this year, accounting for more than 60% of all transfers and exceeding $1.75 billion. Money transfers to Armenia in the first ten months amounted to $2.8 billion, which is almost four times more compared to the same period last year. In October, their volume reached its maximum since at least 2004, the Central Bank of Armenia notes. In Tajikistan, the flow of money transfers increased by at least 50% in the first half of the year, Natalia Lavrova, a specialist of the BCS financial group, said with reference to the balance of payments data.
