OREANDA-NEWS The closure of Russian airspace has led to serious consequences for Canadian airlines. This is reported in the material published on the portal CTV News.

The publication notes that Canada regretted the closure of Russian airspace. In particular, due to the need to fly around the country, Canadian carriers faced an increase in flight time and fuel costs, which led to a rise in the price of tickets for passengers. "The optimal flight route between Canada and Southeast Asia and everything in between involves flying through part of Russia's airspace," Duncan Dee, Air Canada's ex-chief operating Officer, confirmed.

According to Cirium, the cost of an Air Canada one-way ticket from Vancouver to Hong Kong increased by 41 percent from January 2019 to January 2023, and by 47 percent from Toronto to Delhi. Ross Aimer, a former pilot and CEO of Aero Consulting Experts, stressed that this situation puts Air Canada and other banned airlines "at a competitive disadvantage."

Earlier, a Russian plane stuck in Canada paid millions of rubles for parking. The company sent 4.5 million rubles for 100 days of aircraft parking in the country.

Earlier, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA — the EU aviation regulator) deprived Russian airlines of certificates for flights in the skies of EU countries. The list includes Aeroflot, S7, Gazprom-Avia, Volga-Dnepr, Ural Airlines.
