OREANDA-NEWS In the third decade of January, the average maximum interest rate on ruble deposits in the ten largest banks continued to rise due to an increase in the key rate. According to the Central Bank, it reached 14.88 percent, TASS reports.
In the first ten days, it was 14.79 percent, in the second — 14.87 percent. When determining this parameter, the regulator uses only deposits available to all customers, and does not take into account those that are possible only with the simultaneous purchase of shares, opening an investment account, registration of an insurance program and similar monetary options.
Earlier, Andrey Sirotkin, senior lecturer at the Department of Banking at Synergy University, explained that a high key rate often does not allow covering the real and official inflation rate.
So, sometimes banks go to various tricks, for example, they offer insurance or a floating rate, so that in the end the client cannot even protect his savings from the effects of inflation.
Currently, the key rate is 16 percent per annum. The next meeting of the Central Bank's board of directors, which will decide on the rate, will be held on February 16. However, experts and employees of the Central Bank rule out that it may decide to ease monetary policy.
