OREANDA-NEWS  Telegram began to make a profit for the first time in three years after the introduction of monetization. This was stated by the founder of the messenger Pavel Durov.

According to him, in 2024, the number of Telegram Premium subscribers tripled to more than 12 million. In addition, the app's revenue from advertising has increased several times. As a result, Telegram's total revenue exceeded one billion dollars, which allowed the company to close the year with cash reserves of more than 500 million dollars, in addition to crypto assets.

"Over the past four years, Telegram has placed debt obligations in the amount of about two billion dollars. A significant portion of them were paid this fall due to favorable prices for Telegram bonds. Our innovative monetization solutions (stars, gifts, mini-apps, and others) demonstrate that social media platforms can achieve financial stability while remaining independent and respecting user rights," Durov wrote.

In 2023, Telegram had revenue of $342 million, operating expenses of $108 million, and a total loss of almost $173 million after taxes. According to the FT, the company has raised about $ 2.4 billion in debt financing, Durov himself personally bought Telegram bonds worth at least $ 64 million. Telegram's financial losses were partially offset by an increase in the value of the digital assets that the company holds on its balance sheet, estimated at almost $400 million in 2023.
