Some food products have fallen in price in Russia

OREANDA-NEWS Over the year, the average margin of retail chains for food products decreased to 6.18 percent, or by 1.75 percentage points. This was reported by Izvestia with reference to data from the Association of Retail Trade Companies (ACORT).
In the second quarter of 2024, onions in retail chains fell by 45.5 percent to 37 rubles, buckwheat — by 15 percent to 43.4 rubles, white cabbage — by 13 percent to 41 rubles. In addition, millet has fallen in price by 16 percent. Now one kilogram of this cereal costs 41.6 rubles.
Beetroot has risen in price the most. Its purchase price increased by 84 percent in the second quarter to 55 rubles. The price tag for chicken eggs, apples, carrots and chicken has also increased. However, retail chains restrained their strong rise in price with negative and near-zero margins. As a result, the cost of beetroot, eggs, apples and chicken in large stores was less than the average price of these products recorded by Rosstat. Beetroot was on average 10.7 percent cheaper for a visitor to the retail chain, chicken eggs — by 15 percent, broiler carcass — by 20.5 percent, and apples — by 38.5 percent.
