OREANDA-NEWS The "sandwich coffee index" ("Sandwich Index"), reflecting the picture of Russians' consumption of popular breakfast products, increased by 2.1 points in the second half of October and amounted to 143.4 points.

The index was developed by RIA Novosti on the basis of data exclusively provided to the agency by specialists of the large analytical resource "Check Index". The "basket" for its calculation includes seven products - frequent guests at the morning tables of Russians: loaf (400 grams), ham (200 grams), butter (180 grams), cheese (200 grams), cucumbers (500 grams), instant coffee (95 grams), sugar (1 kilogram).

For products from this consumer basket, the "Check Index" analysts regularly calculate aggregated impersonal sales figures (average check). The value of the "Coffee and Sandwich Index" for the period from October 1 to October 15, 2022 was taken as the base 100 points. Its change corresponds to the arithmetic mean of the dynamics of the average receipt for each of the seven products.

From October 16 to 31, 2024, the average check increased for ham (by 32%, to 256 rubles), butter (by 15.8%, to 220 rubles) and cheese (by 4.8%, to 220 rubles). It decreased in sugar (by 15%, to 68 rubles), cucumbers (by 11.9%, to 119 rubles), coffee (by 8.6%, to 202 rubles), loaf (by 2.2%, to 44 rubles).

Thus, the index increased by 2.1 points to 143.4 points compared to the previous two-week period.

As explained by the analysts of the "Check Index", the high demand for butter has made an upward contribution to the index, plus, in general, consumption of high-calorie food categories is traditionally growing closer to winter.
