OREANDA-NEWS  American sanctions have really created problems with bank cards in Turkey, so Russians who want to travel to the republic should work out payment issues in advance or stock up on cash. This was stated by Russia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey Alexey Yerkhov in a comment to RIA Novosti.

The suspension of early hotel bookings by Russian tourists became known in early December last year. At that time, the Russian Embassy denied this information, but local media reported that a number of Turkish operators were really afraid of problems.

The reason for the policy change was the restrictive measures imposed by the United States on November 21. Then Gazprombank and six of its foreign subsidiaries were included in the sanctions lists, which made it impossible to use the bank's cards of the Chinese UnionPay system. The maps of the Russian Mir system have not been used in Turkey for a long time.

At the beginning of the year, it was reported that Turkey was experiencing more and more problems with cash withdrawals due to a shortage of small denominations of 10, 20, 50 and 100 Turkish lira. At the same time, difficulties arise with depositing cash — many ATMs do not accept small bills because they overflow too quickly and block their work.
