OREANDA-NEWS  Coffee prices in Russian stores will increase by an average of 20-30 percent next year. Igor Balynin, Candidate of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Finance at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, warned citizens about the sharp rise in prices of these products. His words are quoted by Gazeta.Ru».

The analyst attributed this trend to a number of factors. According to the expert, the drought in Brazil, which is one of the world's main suppliers of these products, will contribute to a sharp rise in the price of the main types of coffee (Arabica and robusta). In addition, the price situation will be affected by heavy rainfall in Vietnam.

Against this background, Balynin recommended that Russians pay attention to discount promotions in stores. In the case of coffee, he noted, the retail discount can reach 40 percent. He also advised citizens to choose more budget-friendly products in bags rather than in glass jars. "Coffee is usually cheaper in such a package," concluded the Candidate of Economic Sciences.

Stock prices for coffee have been actively growing for several months. At the end of November, the price of futures contracts for the March supply of Arabica coffee during trading on the New York Stock Exchange ICE Futures at the moment approached the mark of 3.22 dollars per pound and reached the highest level since May 1997. By December 10, the quotes had already reached the level of 3.5 dollars. The achieved result turned out to be the highest in the entire history of statistical observations — since 1972.

In turn, a more budget—friendly variety, robusta, has increased in price to a record level since the 1970s. Against this background, suppliers have predicted a very difficult 2025 for the industry and consumers.
