Russians exchanged dollars 2.4 times more often than euros in May

OREANDA-NEWS In May 2024, Russians rushed to exchange dollars, the number of such transactions with the American currency in the country turned out to be 2.4 times more than with the euro. This is reported by TASS with reference to statistical data from analysts of the Russian Standard bank.
At the same time, in the last month of spring, citizens sold cash dollars 19 percent more often than they bought. A similar trend has been recorded in the case of the euro. Sales of the European currency in Russia turned out to be 21 percent more than purchases.
At the same time, Russians bought non-cash dollars 23 percent more often than they sold them in May. In the case of the euro, analysts noted the opposite trend. The European currency was sold online 25 percent more often than it was bought. The average check of one currency exchange operation with the American currency in May amounted to 420 dollars, and with the European one — 464 euros, experts summarized.
Earlier, the head of the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA), Andrei Melnikov, announced that Russians were cooling off towards dollar savings. According to him, the share of citizens' savings in the US currency fell almost three times in the first quarter of 2024 — from 20 to 8 percent.
