OREANDA-NEWS Labeling of tobacco products has brought 245 billion rubles of additional revenue to the country's budget in three years, said Deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia Ekaterina Priezzheva, quoted by the agency's website.

"Today, the system applies to more than 120 thousand legal entities in relation to tobacco products, and the cumulative effect of suppressing its illegal turnover amounted to 245 billion rubles in the form of tax revenues received," the deputy minister estimated.

According to her, over the past time, 18 tobacco production has been legalized, and 45 illegal ones have been closed.

Mandatory labeling of cigarettes was introduced in Russia in 2019. In 2024, instead of paper excise taxes, it is planned to launch digital labeling in order to assess the possibility of switching to a declaration-free regime, which, among other things, will save business.
