OREANDA-NEWS According to the results of January-April, the deficit of the Russian federal budget amounted to 1.484 trillion rubles, or 0.8 percent of GDP. This is reported by Interfax with reference to statistics from the Ministry of Finance (Ministry of Finance).
The concept of budget deficit refers to the excess of government spending over income. According to the budget law, the figure in 2024 is set at 1.595 trillion rubles, or 0.9 percent of GDP. Thus, in the first four months, the budget deficit almost reached the annual plan.
In annual terms, the achieved indicator has decreased sharply. For comparison, in January-April 2023, the budget deficit was estimated at 3.049 trillion rubles, or 1.8 percent of GDP. Thus, over the year, the indicator decreased by 1.565 trillion rubles, according to the statistical data of the department.
Earlier, the Ministry of Finance reported an increase in oil and gas revenues of the Russian budget by 82.2 percent in annual terms. In January-April, revenues from this sector totaled 4,157 trillion rubles. The ministry explained such dynamics by a number of factors, including an increase in export prices for Russian oil and an additional payment on the mineral extraction tax (MET) for the fourth quarter of 2023.
