Russia May Be Disconnected from Visa and MasterCard
OREANDA-NEWS. Russia may be disconnected from the American global payment systems Visa and MasterCard. This will happen if the United States strengthens the illegal restriction of the country's development. This follows from the statement of the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
"We can state with certainty one thing: in one form or another, restrictions on Russia are used by a whole number of states," said Peskov. According to him, the purpose of these illegal measures "from the point of view of international law" is to restrain any development of Russia.
The presidential press secretary noted: "These restrictions are manifested in various forms, this is a rather unpredictable process, therefore, within the framework of this process, given such unfriendly, and sometimes even hostile forms of behavior towards us, nothing can be ruled out."
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced a plan to abandon American payment systems, which are widespread in the world.
Russia and other countries that are considered enemies in the US or the EU have created national systems to strengthen financial sovereignty. China and Russia, other countries are increasing settlements in national currencies. During the period of the first US and EU sanctions in 2014, when a number of banks were already disconnected from American card transfers, Russia created the national payment system "Mir" and there are countries where this system can be used.
