OREANDA-NEWS  In September, Russia increased the volume of investments in US government bonds to $73 million. This is evidenced by data from the US Treasury. Of this volume, $61 million is accounted for long—term government bonds in Russian investments, as well as $12 million for short-term ones.

Compared to August, this figure has more than doubled (from $31 million). In July, Russia's investments in US government securities amounted to $29 million, in June — $33 million, in May — $36 million, in April — $35 million, in March — $77 million, in February — $75 million.

The leader in terms of investments in US government securities in September is Japan — about $1.08 trillion (whereas in August this figure was $1.1 trillion). China is in second place with $778.1 billion ($805.4 billion in August). Britain is in third place with $668.9 billion ($698.1 billion in August).

In September, the US national debt exceeded $33 trillion for the first time in history. In early October, this indicator broke the record again, reaching $33.442 trillion.
