OREANDA-NEWS   In 2023, Russia increased lending to third countries to more than $30 billion. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to data from the World Bank

The Russian Federation began to lend to other states with record activity — the volume of funds provided increased to its maximum since 1999. The debt to Russia increased by $1.3 billion last year. 25 years ago, the figure rose to $32.8 billion.

Belarus retained the title of the largest debtor with an indicator of 7.75 billion dollars. Bangladesh ($6.6 billion) and India ($4.1 billion) also entered the top three, while Egypt ($3.3 billion) and Vietnam ($1.4 billion) rounded out the top five debtors. At the same time, Egypt increased borrowing by $1.45 billion over the year, Bangladesh by $745 million, and India by $363 million. Among the debtors, Nicaragua was noted — the state in Central America borrowed $ 16.9 million for the first time since 2003.

Over the past year, Russia has written off almost all of Somalia's debt — the loan amount has changed from $793 million to $49 million. The debt of Belarus decreased by 487 million, Serbia — by 117 million, Armenia — by 40 million, Azerbaijan — by 22 million dollars. Also, 10 countries have repaid debts of $ 82 million.

Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Yaroslav Zheleznyak earlier noted that since the beginning of hostilities, the republic has received a total of more than $ 100 billion in financial assistance from Western partners. On November 13 alone, the amount of financial assistance from Western countries amounted to 1.35 billion. Such support is necessary, among other things, to cover the growing deficit of the state treasury and increasing military spending.
