OREANDA-NEWS The operation of the system, which allowed buying Italian goods for rubles, was suspended. This was stated by the head of the Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce (IRTP) Ferdinando Pelazzo, his words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the representative of the department, payment for goods in rubles was suspended out of concern that this mechanism allows circumventing sanctions against Russia. His work stopped after an appeal from the Italian Financial Security Committee.
The system for exchanging Italian supplies for rubles has been operating in test mode since February 2024. The IRTP does not consider that they violate the restrictions, as they work with goods that do not fall under sanctions. The Chamber intends to raise the issue of further operation of the ruble payment mechanism at a meeting of its members in July, Pelazzo explained.
Earlier, a representative of the Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce said that the European country has begun to supply more refrigerators and food processing equipment to Russia. He called it a good signal indicating that "exports from Italy are being revived." "Everything is transparent and legal," Pelazzo stressed.
