OREANDA-NEWS Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation Sergey Belov promised that new banknotes in denominations of 1000 and 5000 rubles will be presented in the summer of 2023. According to him, the modernization will provide reliable protection against counterfeiting and improve the quality of banknotes in circulation, TASS quotes them.
He said that they will update the design of the bills, improve protection and make them more resistant to wear.
Experts have already proposed about 30 objects for the design of new banknotes, among them the Kremlin, the State Bank building and the monument to Maxim Gorky in Nizhny Novgorod, as well as a panorama of Yekaterinburg.
According to Alexey Voilukov, Vice President of the Association of Banks of Russia, only 20 percent of ATMs in Russia are ready to accept new banknotes. The reason for this is the use of foreign currency recognition devices, the manufacturers of which have left the Russian market. Import substitution will take about two years, he said.
As the survey of the Avito Work service showed, the majority of Russians (71 percent) prefer digital money. Only 13 percent of employees cash out all their earned money. People aged 45-54 (15 percent) like cash the most. The Central Bank said that over the year there was 2.3 trillion rubles more cash in circulation, in total there are 16.4 trillion rubles of banknotes in circulation in Russia.
