OREANDA-NEWS  New banknotes with a face value of five thousand rubles have gradually begun to appear in Russian regions. At the moment, they have entered circulation in the Altai and Perm territories.

As Yulia Luzhnova, a specialist at the Barnaul branch of the Bank of Russia, clarified, the stele "Europe — Asia" is depicted on the obverse of the updated bill, and the monument "Tale of the Urals" in Chelyabinsk is on the reverse. The Bank of Russia's Perm Krai branch explained that the upgraded banknotes are gradually entering monetary circulation through local credit organizations. They will be launched into mass circulation around November-December.

The old five thousandth banknotes of the 1997 model will be in circulation on a par with the new ones for several more years. Gradually, the updated version of the bill should displace the outdated one from everyday use.

At the moment, technical work is underway to prepare ATMs and other devices to work with upgraded banknotes, which have an enhanced security system.

It was explained to the Russians that until 2025, it is gradually planned to modernize banknotes of the 1997 model, including 10, 50, 500 and 1000 rubles. They are going to develop a new design for them and make the bills more secure from fraudsters.
