OREANDA-NEWS McDonald's will pay €1.25 billion to the French treasury to avoid prosecution in a case of financial fraud in the country, France-Presse reported.
The investigation into the case against the American fast-food chain began in 2016. The company was accused of tax evasion on French territory. McDonald's artificially reduced profits on the territory of the European state. This lasted from 2009 to 2020. The largest tax penalty in France was recorded in 2020. Then the aircraft manufacturer Airbus paid €2.1 billion.
In early March, Reuters wrote that McDonald's will cost $50 million a month to close the Russian restaurant chain.
In mid-May, the fast food chain McDonald's said it was leaving the Russian market after 32 years in the country. It attributed its decision to operational difficulties and the humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
