OREANDA-NEWS. Naftogaz Ukrainy filed a lawsuit in the Vidzeme suburb in Riga, in which the company demands interim measures to enforce the decision of the Stockholm arbitration, which awarded Kiev $ 2.6 billion in a gas transit dispute with Gazprom. This is stated in the quarterly report of Gazprom.

“On November 5, 2019, Gazprom announced that Naftogaz Ukrainy filed a petition with the Vidzeme suburb of Riga (Latvia) for recognition and enforcement in the territory of Latvia of the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration for Transit Dispute of February 28, 2018, as well as the adoption of interim measures”, the company said.

The hearing is due to take place at the end of April 2020. Gazprom is exploring opportunities to protect its interests, the report said. Gazprom in Latvia owns a 34% stake in the company JSC Latvijas Gāze. Gazprom is the largest shareholder of this company. For the three quarters of 2019, the company's revenue from gas sales in Latvia amounted to 8.196 billion rubles. JSC Latvijas Gāze is the largest gas trader in the region.
