Inflation in Britain Surpassed a Record 9% in May for the First Time since 1982

OREANDA-NEWS Annual inflation in Britain reached 9.1% in May 2022, breaking a record of 40 years ago, according to data from the country's Bureau of National Statistics, Gazeta.ru reported.
The agency's website also shows that consumer prices rose 0.7 percent in May. At the same time, a month earlier the figure showed an increase of 2.5%. In addition, the inflation index including homeowners' expenses for housing maintenance showed an increase of 7.9%. In April, it was at 7.8%.

Earlier, the Guardian newspaper wrote that food prices in the UK could rise by a record 15% this summer amid sanctions against Russia and Brexit. According to the newspaper, the strongest inflation will affect meat, cereals, vegetables and fruits. At the same time, chicken, pork and bakery products are rising most rapidly.
