In the first quarter of 2022, 2,115 counterfeit banknotes with a face value of two thousand rubles were detected in Russia, which is 5.5 times more compared to the same period a year earlier. This is reported in the report of the Bank of Russia, which is published on the website of the regulator.

According to the results of the first quarter of 2021, the Bank of Russia identified 382 counterfeit banknotes. More counterfeit banknotes began to appear from the third quarter of 2021. Then they found 1070 fake banknotes. In the fourth quarter of 2021, up to 1900 pieces were identified.

Two-thousand banknotes with the image of the bridge to Russky Island and the Vostochny Cosmodrome appeared in circulation at the end of 2017. The first fakes began to be found in the second quarter of 2018. At the end of 2018, 384 counterfeit banknotes were identified.

At the end of January 2022, the Public Relations Center of the FSB (Federal Security Service) of Russia reported that the special service had carried out a special operation against counterfeiters in Dagestan. Employees of the service seized 12 million counterfeit rubles, clichés, a press machine and printer cartridges.
