OREANDA-NEWS In Russia, it was proposed to limit the prices of school supplies. On the eve of the new academic year, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of the Russian Federation addressed sellers with such an initiative.

The department reminded businesses of the need for "fair market behavior" during a period of increased demand from citizens. The FAS invited retailers to join the restriction of prices and margins on school supplies. The companies also warned that the service may resort to antitrust measures if signs of speculative actions by sellers are detected.

The antimonopoly regulator recalled that in July, the Detsky Mir chain of stores, at the request of the Federal Antimonopoly Service, voluntarily fixed prices for a number of items (stationery, backpacks, children's clothing and shoes) at the level of 2023. According to the service, joining other companies in this practice will have a positive impact on the market.

On August 13, the FAS called on DNS, M. Video and Citylink stores to limit margins on some popular models of electronics and household appliances. In addition, the antimonopoly authorities urged not to forget about the importance of observing the principles of responsible pricing and preventing unjustified price increases. Online electronics and home appliance retailer Citylink later announced that it would reduce prices for 160 items from 60 categories by an average of seven percent.
