IMF Reported of the Progress of Negotiations with Argentina on the Country’s Debt
OREANDA-NEWS. Gerry Rice, a Spokesman for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reported that the negotiations of the organization with the Argentine authorities on the country’s debt obligations were assessed as constructive. According to the official, the talks are ongoing. He noted that the IMF does not see any violations of the Argentine state in terms of the rules of the Fund.
On February 6, a bill on the restructuring of Argentina’s external debt exceeding 300 billion US dollars was adopted by the Senate. Vice President Cristina de Kirchner claimed that the IMF will not receive “half a cent” until the country gets out of the economic recession.
Analysts consider that Buenos Aires’s example can be followed by other IMF clients, including Ukraine.
