OREANDA-NEWS. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is providing $ 11 billion in assistance to 32 sub-Saharan Africa in connection with a new type of coronavirus pandemic. This was reported on Wednesday by Bloomberg with reference to the director of the IMF's African department, Ababa Aemro Selassie.
"The International Monetary Fund, together with the World Bank (WB), also insists on easing the debt burden of the poorest African countries through interstate bilateral credit lines", Abeh Aemro Selassie noted.
Current assistance is provided by the IMF in partnership with partners, including the World Bank, World Health Organization (WHO), African Development Bank and African Union, to support the economies of Africa's poorest nations. Money will go, including to help households. The IMF has already provided financial assistance to Chad, Ghana, Gabon, Madagascar, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo and Burkina Faso.
The finance ministers of African countries under the auspices of the African Union are completing the development of a plan for providing assistance from the world community to the countries of the continent in the amount of $ 100 billion. In their opinion, this assistance should include an increase in credit lines and the immediate rejection of all interest payments on African sovereign debts for their government bonds worth $ 44 billion.
