Fraudsters stole almost four billion rubles from Russians
OREANDA-NEWS Cyber fraudsters stole 24 percent more money from customers of Russian banks in the third quarter than a year earlier — almost four billion rubles, according to the Central Bank's website.
In the third quarter, the Bank of Russia initiated the blocking of 3,932 illegal websites, and in nine months — more than 10,000. This is almost 68 percent more than a year earlier. Only 3.4 percent (134.3 million rubles) of the total amount of embezzlement was used to return the funds.
The regulator also initiated the blocking of more than 280 thousand phone numbers that were used for fraudulent activities. This exceeds the same indicator of last year by 10 times.
As the deputy chairman of the Board of the Savings Bank Stanislav Kuznetsov said earlier, the record amount stolen by fraudsters from the victim in one phone call this year amounted to 150 million rubles.
