OREANDA-NEWS. The United States has yet to default on Russia as Washington waits for a more opportune moment to sow panic among Russians, economist Vasily Koltashov said. In his opinion, in this way the United States is trying to provoke an internal political crisis in the Russian Federation, Radio 1 writes.
It is possible to declare that a default has occurred in Russia only once. But the threat can be kept as long as you like. And since no panic effect is foreseen, it is likely that they, like last time, will allow the Treasury Department to make their payments, and then the issue of default will be postponed for another month, when the United States will try to play this topic again, counting on more favorable political situation for them,” Koltashov explained.
At the same time, he noted that Russia has enough foreign currency to repay debt obligations and pay interest on securities. However, currency transfers have been blocked due to anti-Russian sanctions, so Moscow may face technical problems when settling with creditors.
Earlier, the head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation Elvira Nabiullina said that Russia has all the necessary financial resources. According to her, no default threatens the country.
