OREANDA-NEWS. U.S. company The Walt Disney Company predicts $ 175 million in losses from the outbreak of pneumonia caused by the 2019-nCoV virus. According to CNBC, such an assessment was made by Disney Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy when publishing a report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2020 on Tuesday.
According to the company, the temporary closure of Disneyland Recreation and Entertainment Park in Shanghai will cost $ 135 million. Suspension of the similar park in Hong Kong will result in losses of about $ 40 million more. More precise figures will be set out in the report for the next quarter.
"Parks close during the quarter, which under normal circumstances is characterized by high attendance due to the advent of the New Year on the lunar calendar," McCarthy said. "The exact amount of financial losses will largely depend on the duration of the suspension of work and on how quickly we can resume functioning normally", she added. The company doesn't predict a decline in attendance at Disneyland in the United States.
The United States imposed a temporary ban on entry into the country for almost all foreigners who have visited China in recent days, with the exception of family members of American citizens, as well as those who have permission to permanently reside in the United States.
