Car sales in Russia fell by half in 2022

OREANDA-NEWS Car sales in Russia in 2022 fell by 50 percent compared to 2021 — up to 800 thousand units. The halving was announced by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia Denis Manturov on the air of the TV channel "Russia 24".
He added that the prices of cars decreased by 18 percent for a number of brands compared to March of this year. Then the price increase was from 3 to 50 percent, said the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Meanwhile, prices for auto parts soared in the country — from March 19 to December 19, parts rose by an average of 27.7 percent. For a number of positions of brands that have left or frozen their work in Russia, the price increase was immediately 50-60 percent.
At the same time, car dealers warned that the shortage of new cars in Russia due to the cessation of deliveries of European and American models will lead to a rise in the price of new cars up to 10 percent in the first quarter of 2023.
Earlier, Alexey Starikov, Deputy General Director for New Car Sales of Avilon Group, said that the price situation would depend primarily on the exchange rate of the Russian currency.
