OREANDA-NEWS. The founder of the Baring Vostok fund, Michael Calvey, hopes that next year he and other persons involved in the Baring Vostok criminal case will be released, and the investment climate in Russia will improve. The words of the investor to the Russian media were conveyed by his lawyer Dmitry Kletochkin.
“I hope that in 2020 we will all be released and unite with our families and that we will return to productive and successful work at the Baring Vostok Foundation. I also hope that the attention that our business has attracted and the wide support received from the Russian business community will lead to reforms that will limit the recurrence of such events in the future and to strengthen the investment climate in Russia”, said Kletochkin Kalvi.
Calvi noted that 2019 was a difficult year for him and his colleagues, “three of whom are unjustly imprisoned, despite all the evidence presented showing our innocence of the criminal charges against us”, the representative said.
Calvi’s detention has sparked criticism of the business: investors have argued that such disputes should be considered in arbitration rather than criminal court.
