OREANDA-NEWS. The Bank of Spain (Central Bank) believes that the country's GDP this year may decline by 6.6% to 13.6% due to the consequences of the spread of coronavirus. This is stated in the message published on the website of the Central Bank on Monday.

It is noted that we are talking about "unprecedented in recent history, the decline in GDP of Spain". "According to a number of hypotheses, which provide, in particular, that the state of high alert will last a total of eight weeks, it's assumed that the decline in GDP in 2020 will fluctuate between 6.6% and 8.7%", the document says.

Spain is one of the most affected by the pandemic. Since the spread of infection in the kingdom, more than 200 thousand cases of coronavirus infection have been identified, 20 852 patients have died.

Since mid-March, Spain has been on high alert. This measure allowed the authorities to restrict the movement of residents throughout the country, except in cases of emergency. It's expected that on April 22, the Congress of Deputies (lower house of parliament) will extend the regime until May 9 inclusive.
