Sberbank and Linux Foundation Enter Into Agreement
OREANDA-NEWS. During Sibos 2016 international financial forum Sberbank and the Linux Foundation entered into an agreement on the bank’s participation in the Hyperledger Project. The document was signed by Lev Khasis, First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank and Brian Behlendorf, Executive Director of Hyperledger.
Hyperledger is an open source platform based on blockchain technology and distributed ledgers. The project was established in December 2015 by the Linux Foundation – a non-profit consortium dedicated to popularising, protecting and standardising Linux. Hyperledger is a collaborative effort created to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies. According to the founders of the project, its outcome can transform the way business transactions are conducted globally.
Hyperledger brings together the business community and developers and creates cross-industry blockchain technologies. Members of the project include global financial market players, including CME, Deutsche Boerse, LSE, and leading IT companies such as IBM, CISCO, and Intel. Banks and financial institutes that have joined Hyperledger include ABN AMRO, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group, BNP Paribas, BNY Mellon, Moscow Exchange, Wells Fargo, and SWIFT.
“Joining this project shapes the bank’s new technological agenda and provides us with access to international expertise and cutting-edge blockchain developments,” commented Lev Khasis. “We will have the opportunity to directly influence the development of the platform and interact with its key developers.”
