OREANDA-NEWS. Going beyond monetary and item donations, SGX Bull Charge Cares today launched a monthly ‘Cook-a-Meal’ initiative that will benefit about 65 seniors each month from the AWWA Seniors Activity Centre.

SGX Bull Charge is one of the sponsoring organisations to AWWA Seniors Activity Centre, a day centre for low-income seniors living in the vicinity, including those who are staying alone in rental flats with minimal caregiver support.

Through the ‘Cook-a-Meal’ initiative, SGX staff volunteers will provide meals for seniors who have difficulties getting their own meals due to financial or physical limitations. This initiative also encourages closer social interaction between the seniors and the volunteers, keeping the seniors active and integrated in their communities.

Kicking off the launch today, Chew Sutat, SGX Bull Charge Chairman and Head of Equities and Fixed Income, SGX, together with 21 SGX staff volunteers, rolled up their sleeves to prepare a variety of local delicacies, much to the seniors’ delight.

In the spirit of Singapore’s National Day, this first session, themed ‘Local Delights’, saw SGX staff volunteers roll ‘popiah’ and make Samsui women dolls together with the seniors.

Commenting on the new initiative, Chew Sutat said, “Today marks the first time we are hosting a monthly event where we provide companionship for the elderly, some of whom require more caregiver support. The gesture of cooking a meal may sound simple or even taken for granted by some but it can mean a lot for our seniors.”  

“In line with SGX Bull Charge’s objectives, we strongly encourage other industry professionals to support and join us in this meaningful cause,” he added.

SGX Bull Charge, first started in 2004, is SGX’s charity initiative. It is the only corporate charity that rallies the financial community and SGX-listed companies together for a common cause – to support the needs of underprivileged children and families, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. Since its inception, SGX Bull Charge has raised more than S$27 million.

SGX Bull Charge Cares is an initiative for SGX staff volunteers to participate in activities for our beneficiaries, with the objective of lending a helping hand to those in need and bringing smiles to their faces. Such activities range from festive celebrations to fundraising events.
