OREANDA-NEWS. On June 30, the UK-based The Banker’s Magazine released the "Top 1000 World Banks" list 2016, where ICBC came atop the list for the fourth consecutive year with tier-one capital of USD 274.432 billion. ICBC also defended the top position with total assets of USD 3,422.154 billion.

The Banker’s data show that totally 119 Chinese-funded banks are shortlisted for the "Top 1000 World Banks" ranking 2016, of which 17 are among top 100, up by one versus last year. The banks listed in the top 10 world banks for tier-one capital in 2016 remain unchanged as in 2015, including four Chinese banks, four US banks, one UK bank and one Japanese bank.

Tier-one capital of commercial banks is a key indicator to evaluate capabilities in business development and risk bearing and an important guarantee for sustainable growth. In 2004, no Chinese-funded bank was listed in the top 10 world banks. It was not until 2007 that the Chinese bank entered the top 10 list for the first time. Currently four Chinese banks are listed in top 10 for tier-one capital, demonstrating increasing capital strength and rising growth momentum among Chinese banks.
