SOGAZ Paid in Respect of Zagorskaya PSPP-2 Accident
OREANDA-NEWS. SOGAZ Insurance Group made the final payment of 1.38 billion RUB to settle the claim in respect of the flooding of Zagorskaya PSPP-2. The total insurance payment made by SOGAZ was 2.25 billion RUB.
The technical incident at Zagorskaya PSPP-2 happened on September 17, 2013. At 22:57, the duty shift noticed fast water ingress into the turbine room. At that moment, there were 15 people at the station; all of them left the building in a controlled manner and remained safe. During the next few hours the turbine room and onsite yard were flooded. The site inspection revealed that the PSPP building foundation yielded, and the building was flooded through damaged expansion joints and inlets of water pipelines under construction. Subsequent survey, including well drilling, revealed soil erosion in the right-hand side of the building. Such erosion resulted in subsidence of the PSPP building. Incident causes were investigated by a joint commission of Rostekhnadzor and RusGidro PJSC.
SOGAZ was the first among the insurers of Zagorskaya PSPP-2 to recognize this incident as an insurable event. The first payment was made to the client in early 2014. Claims were settled by SOGAZ in several tranches. The balance payment of 1.38 billion RUB was the closing one on this occurrence. The total amount of insurance payment was 2.25 billion RUB.
Zagorskaya PSPP-2 is a part of RusGidro PJSC located in Sergiev-Posad District of Moscow region. Zagorskaya PSPP-2 is constructed in vicinity of the existing Zagorskaya PSPP. After the commissioning of all hydroelectric installations of PSPP-2, both stations will be merged in a single facility.
