In the second quarter of 2016, SIX Swiss Exchange recorded an ETF trading turnover of CHF 22.3 billion, which equates to an increase of 1.3 billion relative to the same quarter in the previous year. This was revealed today in the latest edition of ETF Quarterly Statistics[pdf]. There were 236'896 ETF transactions carried out during this period. The average transaction size was CHF 96'403, corresponding to a slight decline quarter-on-quarter. At the same time, the number of transactions below CHF 10'000 in the second quarter stood at 97'375.

Most-traded products

In Q2, the iShares SMI was once again the most-traded ETF with a turnover of CHF 1'175.2 million. The ISHARES S&P 500 UCITS captured second place with trading turnover of CHF 826.4 million. Third place went to the UBS ETF - MSCI EM SF USD A with a trading turnover of CHF 698.3 million. During the last quarter, both the ZKB GOLD ETF (USD) and the ZKB GOLD ETF managed to keep their spot among the top 20 of the most traded products, ranking 9th and 16th with a turnover of CHF 349.2 million and CHF 233.1 million, respectively. The USD version saw its turnover rise by CHF 33.1 million compared to the previous quarter and moved up from 18th to 9th place.
