Almost 500,000 Russians Voted to Select Symbols for New banknotes
OREANDA-NEWS. Citizens of most Russian cities have already joined the selection of symbols campaign for new 200 and 2000 ruble banknotes. As of July 8, citizens from 970 Russian cities out of 1,113 took vote on a dedicated website (Твоя-Россия.рф).
From 28 June to 8 July, 449,193 people took vote to select symbols for new Bank of Russia banknotes on (Твоя-Россия.рф) website. They offered 3,709 symbols with 15 of them from 14 cities already passed the minimal threshold of 5,000 votes and thus qualified.
The Urals Federal District found its way to the interactive map on July 7, when the Monument to the Conquerors of Samotlor in Nizhnevartovsk qualified.
The citizens of Novosibirsk selected two symbols for their city: the Bugrinsky Bridge and the Novosibirsk State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
385,905 people used social networks to vote, and 63,288 users sent SMS messages.
The qualification stage lasts one month with 28 July being the last day to send suggestions for the selection of city symbols for the new banknotes.
According to the competition rules, a symbol shall collect 5,000 votes to qualify. This is how the interactive map looks like now (in order of appearance):
1. the Motherland Calls Monument (Volgograd);
2. the Golden Bridge (Vladivostok);
3. the Monument to the Scuttled Ships (Sevastopol);
4. the Citadel of Naryn-Kala (Derbent);
5. the Monument to Salavat Yulaev (Ufa);
6. the lake of Baikal (with reference to Irkutsk);
7. the Heart of Chechnya Mosque (Grozny);
8. the Vostochny launching site (with reference to the city of Tsiolkovsky);
9. the Kremlin (Kazan);
10. the Monument to the Defenders of the Russian Arctic during the Great Patriotic War (Murmansk);
11. the Bugrinsky Bridge (Novosibirsk);
12. the Defensive Wall (Smolensk);
13. the Novosibirsk State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet (Novosibirsk);
14. the Monument to the Conquerors of Samotlor (Nizhnevartovsk);
15. the Golden Gates (Vladimir).
As of 8 July, the following symbols are next to qualify: Iset Hotel building in Yekaterinburg, the Kremlin in Nizhny Novgorod, the State University in Tomsk, the bridge to Russky island in Vladivostok, the bridge over the Volga in Saratov, Mother Patroness Monument in Cheboksary, the Rear-Front Monument in Magnitogorsk, and the Kremlin in Kolomna.
The all-Russian selection of symbols for new 200 and 2000 ruble banknotes was initiated by the Bank of Russia. Never before the Russians could offer and select symbols for new banknotes by themselves. The competition will be a three-step procedure with 7 October 2016 being its final day when the winners will be announced.
