The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited announces the appointment of members to the Listing Committee of the Main Board and Growth Enterprise Market
OREANDA-NEWS. The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (the Exchange), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX), announces the appointment of members to the Listing Committee of the Main Board and Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) (together, the Listing Committee1).
The Listing Rules of the Main Board and GEM provide for all Listing Committee members to vacate office annually. Each year, the Listing Nominating Committee nominates individuals for appointment (and reappointment) to the Listing Committee. The Board of the Exchange makes the appointments on the recommendation of the Listing Nominating Committee.
The Listing Nominating Committee this year comprised three non-executive members of the HKEX Board (Chairman Chow Chung Kong, Director Timothy Freshwater and Director Margaret Leung) and the Chairman and two Executive Directors of the Securities and Futures Commission (Chairman Carlson Tong, Chief Executive Officer Ashley Alder, and Executive Director Brian Ho).
By news releases published on 9 November 2015 and 15 January 2016, the Listing Nominating Committee invited applications from individuals interested in serving on the Listing Committee. Forty applications were received. The Listing Nominating Committee is grateful to all applicants for expressing their willingness to serve.
Membership of Listing Committee commencing today
With immediate effect, membership of the Listing Committee will be as set out in the table below. Members' biographies are attached below the table. There are five new Listing Committee members – Dennis Cassidy, Clara Chan, Ronald Chan, Keith Pogson and Arnout van Rijn. They replace Vincent Duhamel, Alvin Leung, Paul Phenix, Blair Pickerell and Wendy Yung. The Exchange wishes to thank these members for their service on the Listing Committee.

Members' Biographies
Mr TAYLOR Stephen — Chairman
Aged 59, Partner, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 24 June 2011. Mr Taylor is senior partner in national audit and assurance technical department of Deloitte China and head of the Deloitte Asia Pacific IFRS centre of excellence based in Hong Kong. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where he is also a member of the Professional Standards Monitoring Expert Panel and its Sustainability and Integrated Reporting Advisory Group. Mr Taylor is a member of IFRS Advisory Council the formal advisory body to the Trustees of the IFRS Foundation, an honorary advisor to the Financial Reporting Council and a member of its Oversight and Operations Committee. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a fellow member of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants. Mr Taylor graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Accounting and Finance.
Mr BROWN Stephen James — Deputy Chairman
Aged 60, Group Head of Corporate Affairs at Noble Group Limited since August 2007, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 4 May 2012. Mr Brown was previously a director of Kim Eng Securities Hong Kong Limited and has held a number of senior positions at major institutions operating in the capital markets in Hong Kong and Asia. Mr Brown is a director of Civic Exchange and a member of the SFC Dual Filing Advisory Group. He graduated from Reading University with a degree in Urban Estate Management. He previously served on the Listing Committee from 2006 to 2009.
Mr HO Chi On, John — Deputy Chairman
Aged 40, founder and Chief Investment Officer, Janchor Partners, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 11 July 2014. Janchor Partners is an investment management firm focused on fundamental long-term investments in Asia-related companies. Prior to Janchor Partners, Mr Ho was Head of Asian Investing at the Hong Kong office of The Children's Investment Fund. He also served as a non-executive director of The Link Real Estate Investment Trust and an Associate Lecturer in the School of Banking and Finance of the University of New South Wales, Australia. Mr Ho holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance (First Class Honours and University Medal) from the University of New South Wales.
Mr LI Xiaojia, Charles — Ex officio member
Aged 55, became an ex officio member of the Listing Committee when his appointment as Chief Executive of HKEX took effect on 16 January 2010. Mr Li is Chairman of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited and also Chairman and a director of various other subsidiaries of HKEX. Before joining HKEX, he was Chairman of JP Morgan Chase China, prior to which he was President of Merrill Lynch China. Before joining Merrill Lynch in 1994, Mr Li practiced law in New York with Davis Polk & Wardwell and Brown & Wood.
Before moving to the US for his studies, Mr Li had worked as an offshore oil worker in the North China Sea, and as a newspaper editor-reporter for China Daily from 1984-86.
Mr Li obtained a BA degree in English literature from Xiamen University of China in 1984, a MA degree in journalism from the University of Alabama in 1988, and a JD degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1991.
Mr BRIEN Peter Wilhelm Hubert — Member
Aged 51, Partner, Slaughter and May, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 10 July 2015.
Mr Brien is admitted to practice as a solicitor in Hong Kong and England and Wales. He graduated from University of Birmingham with a law degree.
Mr CASSIDY Dennis — Member
Aged 65, head of the corporate finance department of Anglo Chinese Corporate Finance, Limited, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 8 July 2016. He has over 25 years of corporate finance experience. He has served as a member of Hong Kong's Standing Committee on Company Law Reform, the Takeovers and Mergers Panel of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the SFC's Dual Filing Advisory Group. He has a law degree from the London School of Economics and is also a qualified barrister in Hong Kong and in England and Wales.
Prior to joining Anglo Chinese in 1999, he worked in corporate finance in Asia, first with Jardine Fleming Holdings Limited where he was a director and then five years with Standard Chartered Asia Limited where he was managing director of corporate finance. Before transferring to Hong Kong in 1980, he spent three years in the corporate finance department of Robert Fleming & Co Limited in London.
Mr CHAN Chiu Kong, Edmond — Member
Aged 50, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers was appointed to the Listing Committee on 10 July 2015. He is Co-head of Capital Markets Services for PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong and China with over 25 years of assurance and advisory experience. Mr Chan is a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a member of CPA Australia. He is a director of the Association of Christian Accountants. Mr Chan graduated from the University of New South Wales with a bachelor's degree in Commerce.
Mr CHAN Wai Yan, Ronald — Member
Aged 36, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Chartwell Capital Limited, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 8 July 2016. Mr Chan manages a value-based investment fund, focusing on publicly listed Asian equities. He is the author of several books, including Behind the Berkshire Hathaway Curtain: Lessons from Warren Buffett's Top Business Leaders, and The Value Investors: Lessons from the World's Top Fund Managers. Mr Chan graduated from the Stern School of Business at New York University, with Bachelor of Science degrees in finance and accounting.
Mr CHAN Wing Tak, Kevin — Member
Aged 49, a founder and treasurer of Concentric Education Foundation (Hong Kong) was appointed to the Listing Committee on 24 May 2013. In this role, Mr Chan oversees overall financial management and investments for the Foundations. As an investment analyst with more than 20 years' experience, he was previously Senior Advisor (Banking) of KPMG China, Head of Hong Kong and China Financial Research at CLSA Limited and before that held a similar position at Nomura International (HK) Limited, ING Barings, Citigroup and HSBC Asset Management. He is a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Guangxi Committee, an Honorary Director of the Y Elites Association. Mr Chan received a Master's degree and Bachelor's degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science of University of London, UK.
Ms CHAN Yuen Shan, Clara — Member
Aged 44, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lee Kee Holdings Limited and a director of its principal subsidiaries, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 8 July 2016. She has over 20 years of experience in the non-ferrous metals industry. Ms Chan is a member of the Lead and Zinc Committee of the London Metal Exchange and a member of the Board Risk Committee of LME Clear Limited. She is also a member of Energy Advisory Committee of the HKSAR Government, a Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Die-casting and Foundry Association Limited and a Vice-President of Hong Kong Young Industrialist Council. She holds a Master of Social Science degree in Global Political Economy from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Ms CHARLTON Julia Frances — Member
Aged 56, Partner, Charltons, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 4 May 2012. She is a member of the Takeovers and Mergers Panel and a member of the Takeovers Appeal Committee of the Securities and Futures Commission. Ms Charlton is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors and a Senior Fellow of the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute and a member of its Education Committee. She is also a member of Investigation Panel A of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and of the Company Law Committee of The Law Society of Hong Kong, and is the Chairperson of the Eurocham Financial Services Business Council.
Ms Charlton is qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong and in England and Wales. She holds a first class honours degree from King's College London and a Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Oxford.
Mr CHAU Paul — Member
Aged 41, Deputy Executive Head and Managing Director of Global Coverage Division, BOCI Asia Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of BOC International Holdings Limited) was appointed to the Listing Committee on 10 July 2015.
Mr Chau is a member of the Corporate Governance Policies Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors and a Financial Market Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. He is a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants where he serves on the Corporate Finance Committee. Mr Chau is a Fellow of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a Chartered Financial Analyst. He graduated from City University of Hong Kong with a First Class Honours Degree in Accountancy.
Mr CHOW Yik Cheung, Eric — Member
Aged 39, Investment Director of Value Partners Group Limited, the Asian leading independent asset management group listed on the Main Board of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 24 May 2013. Mr Chow worked for Australian Bureau of Statistics in Australia after graduation, and later joined Value Partners at its headquarters in Hong Kong in 2002. Mr Chow has been leading the alternative investment strategies at Value Partners, including fundamental investing, arbitrage, event driven, derivatives, and corporate consultancy to enhance the values of the invested enterprises.
Mr Chow is the Principal Member of City University of Hong Kong Foundation. Born in Hong Kong, Mr Chow graduated from The University of Sydney, Australia, with a Bachelor's degree in Economics (double majors in Economics and Finance).
Mr CLARK Stephen John — Member
Aged 52, Managing Director, Transaction Management, Capital Financing, Asia-Pacific, Global Banking and Markets for The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 4 May 2012. Mr Clark is a member of the Hong Kong Securities Institute and a member of the Financial Markets Committee of The British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. He is qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong and in England and Wales (non-practising). He holds a bachelor's degree in law from Southampton University.
Mr GOODING Nial Dennis Henry — Member
Aged 56, Senior Fund Manager, GCIS Limited, a boutique fund manager specialising in Hong Kong and China equity investment, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 4 May 2012. Mr Gooding has lived and worked in Asia for more than 30 years, and in Hong Kong since 1992. He has worked for a number of financial institutions in equity sales, sales management and investment management positions. Most recently he was a Senior Research Analyst (China) at Eight Investment Partners having been before that Head of Equity Strategy at Northwest Investment Management, a Hong Kong based hedge fund. He is also a CFA Charterholder.
Ms HO Yvonne — Member
Aged 52, co-founder, Managing Director and Head of Legal & Compliance, Cheetah Investment Management Limited, and founder and Managing Director, Courses & Seminars Limited, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 4 May 2012. She serves on the board of various group investment management companies. She is qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong and in England and Wales. Ms Ho is admitted as a Barrister of the Province of British Columbia and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada. She holds a J.D. from the University of British Columbia, B.C., Canada and a Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College, Claremont, California.
Mr MAGUIRE John Martin — Member
Aged 52, Head of Corporate Finance at REORIENT Financial Markets Limited, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 24 May 2013. Mr Maguire was previously Managing Director of OSK Capital Hong Kong Limited (formerly named Ernst & Young Corporate Finance Limited), a position he held since co-founding the company in 2000.
Mr Maguire is Deputy Chairman of the Takeovers and Mergers Panel, a member of the Takeovers Appeal Committee, an alternate member of the Securities and Futures Commission's Nominations Committee and a member of the Committee on Real Estate Investment Trusts. He is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute and a Senior Fellow of the Institute.
Mr Maguire is qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong and in England and Wales (non-practising). Mr Maguire is a member of the Company Law Committee of The Law Society of Hong Kong. He holds a bachelor's degree in law from Durham University.
Mr POGSON Timothy Keith — Member
Aged 46, Senior Partner Financial Services Asia Pacific, Ernst & Young (EY), was appointed to the Listing Committee on 8 July 2016. Mr Pogson is EY's Global Assurance Leader for Banking & Capital Markets. Previously he founded and led EY's Financial Services practice across Asia Pacific.
Mr Pogson was President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) in 2012 and has been both the chairman and a member of a number of the HKICPA's standard setting committees in Hong Kong. Presently he is a member of the Audit Committee and the Regulatory Accountability Board of the HKICPA as well as both a Fellow and Practicing Member. He also serves as a member of Hong Kong's Standing Committee on Company Law Reform.
Mr Pogson is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a Member of the Hong Kong Securities & Investment Institute. He graduated with a First-class Honours degree in Management Science from Warwick Business School in the UK.
Mr ROBERTS Donald Jeffrey — Member
Aged 64, Independent Non-Executive Director, HK Electric Investments Limited, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 10 July 2015. Mr Roberts joined Hutchison Whampoa Limited in 1988 and was its Group Deputy Chief Financial Officer from 2000 until his retirement in 2011.
He is a Chartered Accountant with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada, Chartered Professional Accountants Alberta and British Columbia. Mr Roberts is also a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and serves on a number of its Committees. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
Mr Roberts holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary, Canada.
Mr SWIFT Joseph Daniel — Member
Aged 49, Managing Director in the Investment Banking Division, Goldman Sachs (Asia) LLC, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 11 July 2014. Mr Swift holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a Bachelor's degree from Washington University in the United States.
Mrs TRACY Alexandra Boakes — Member
Aged 49, President and Founder of Hoi Ping Ventures, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 24 May 2013. Hoi Ping Ventures provides research and consulting on investment in low carbon energy and infrastructure in Asian emerging markets. Mrs Tracy began her career as an investment banker in Hong Kong and Singapore, and then ran a number of start-up businesses, including a software company and a publishing and information business. Following the sale of the latter, she was for several years Vice President - Strategy at First Eastern Investment Group, an independent private investment group in Hong Kong.
Mrs Tracy is an Active Private Sector Observer to the United Nations Green Climate Fund and an advisor to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's Asian Family Business Research Centre. She was non-executive Chairman of the Association for Sustainable & Responsible Investment in Asia for six years, stepping down in 2015, and was instrumental in establishing the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change during this period. She also sits on a number of corporate and non-profit boards in Hong Kong, including Tom Hugh Limited, where she is non-executive Chairman, and The Indus Entrepreneurs Hong Kong Chapter. Mrs Tracy speaks and writes regularly on sustainable finance, development and infrastructure issues. She has an MBA from the Harvard Business School and MA degrees from Yale University and Cambridge University.
Mr TYE Philip Andrew — Member
Aged 53, Chairman of Hong Kong Chapter and Member of Global Council, Alternative Investment Management Association, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 11 July 2014. Mr Tye is also a director of HFL Advisors Limited, a company which provides independent director and strategic advisory services to hedge funds. He currently serves as an independent director for various hedge funds and hedge fund management companies and was previously a Founding Partner and Managing Director of DragonBack Capital Limited. He is Director and a Senior Fellow of the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute and is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors. Mr Tye is a member of the SFC (HKEC Listing) Committee. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Mr Tye graduated from the University of Essex with a degree in biological sciences.
Mr VAN RIJN Arnout — Member
Aged 51, Chief Investment Officer Asia-Pacific, Co-Head of the Asia-Pacific team and Lead Portfolio Manager of Robeco Asia-Pacific Equities, was appointed to the Listing Committee on 8 July 2016.
From 2003 to 2007 he was the Lead Portfolio Manager of Rolinco, one of Robeco's flagship equity products. Prior to that, Mr van Rijn held several positions within the Robeco Equity department covering European, Asian and American markets. He started his career in the investment industry in 1990 and was Portfolio Manager of Robeco's Emerging Markets Equities fund from its inception in 1994 until 2000.
Mr van Rijn holds a Master's degree in Business Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
Mr WEIR Andrew Walter Bougourd Ross — Member
Mr Weir, Aged 51, is the Regional Senior Partner of KPMG in Hong Kong, Vice-Chairman of KPMG China and Head of Capital Markets of KPMG China and was appointed to the Listing Committee on 11 July 2014. Mr Weir is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and previously served on its Disciplinary Panel and various Committees and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and Deputy Chairman of its Advisory Panel in Hong Kong. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in London in 1990.
Mr Weir is the Global Chair of Real Estate and Construction at KPMG and Asia Pacific Chair of Infrastructure, Government and Healthcare which also includes the transport and real estate sectors.
Mr Weir is Chairman of Plan International and Community Business. He is a Board Member of the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association and Asian Association for Investors in Non-listed Real Estate Vehicles. He is a Director of Pacific Basin Economic Council and a member of the World Economic Forum B20 Trade and Investment Taskforce.
He has served as Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and on the International Business Council, Review Small Entrepreneur Research Assistance Programme of Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR and the Ethics Development Advisory Committee of the ICAC.
He has a BA (Hons) in Economics and a MA in Development Economics.
